Coventry Council says it will be a long time before Coventry City take over the running of the Ricoh Arena. Bosses have been speaking after new Sky Blues Chairman Ken Dulieu yesterday stated that purchasing the stadium is his top priority and is a great way to raise much-needed cash.
He also said he was due to meet council officials about the issue tomorrow – something the city council has flatly denied.
Deputy Leader George Duggins has told Mercia, with owners SISU having to save the club with a £7 million pound cash injection on Monday, there are more pressing worries for the Coventry City board:
“We don’t believe that the public should have their hopes built-up. People need to understand that the club at the moment is in a mess financially.
“It is a total nonsense to suggest that if only they owned the Ricoh the problems they’ve got wouldn’t exist, they would do. We want to help the club succeed but we’re a long long way away from any viable plans.”
