Aidy Boothroyd struggled to contain his anger last night after a controversial penalty decision by referee Keith Stroud helped condemn Coventry City to a 1-0 home defeat against Swansea.

A second-half strike by substitute Stephen Dobbie was enough to nudge the Welshmen into second place in the Championship after the Sky Blues had dominated for long periods.

But the biggest talking point of the night came in the opening moments of the second half when Swans goalkeeper Dorus De Vries escaped with what looked a clear foul on Carl Baker after spilling Richard Keogh’s cross.

“Two things were crucial in the game,” said Boothroyd – “a mistake by one of our defenders that led to the goal and an unbelievable error by the man in the middle.

“As managers we’re told to be respectful to the officials and I always try to do that, I accept that we’re all human beings and we all make mistakes.

“But to miss something as glaring as that is unbelievable. Not only has the keeper swept his foot away he’s caught him on the way down as well.
