Miniature version with sculptor Nicholas Dimbleby

The clay model was unveiled outside Coventry’s Ricoh Arena where the finished article will take pride of place this summer.

Sculptor Nicholas Dimbleby is already working on the 7ft tall bronze tribute to the Sky Blues legend which should be completed by July.

Nicholas said he used various photographs of Jimmy in a bid to capture the former manager and chairman’s “personality, energy and spirit”.

Jimmy, 82, lives near Brighton still but regularly visits the club.

“There is always pressure to try and encapsulate the personality of the subject in the sculpture and I am lucky in that I have known Jimmy for quite a long time,” said Nicholas.

“I have read his biography and there are a lot of pictures of Jimmy so you can capture something of his energy and spirit.

“There are certain things you notice about Jimmy – he was always very determined, very dogged and very single-minded but there is always a glint in his eye and a focused look about him – and these are the types of things I’ve tried to represent.”

Coventry City launched the £150,000 statue appeal last summer and donations of cash and materials flooded in from supporters, businesses and other organisations eager to celebrate Jimmy’s achievements at the club.

Okay, the miniature looks great but I wonder how it will look full-size?
