Football fans arrested after disorder outside Ricoh Arena

Two people were arrested after trouble flared between fans after Coventry City’s match against Port Vale.



Police dealt with a couple of incidents outside the Ricoh Arena on Saturday after the Sky Blues’ 1-0 victory .

Officers arrested a 21-year-old man from Coventry on suspicion of a racially aggravated public order offence, while a 23-year-old man from Warwick was arrested on suspicion of common assault.

Both have been released on police bail.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: “The vast majority of people attending matches are there to enjoy the opportunity of supporting their team, but there are a few who choose to display their ‘support’ through anti-social or criminal activity .

“Football-related disorder and violence of this nature will not be tolerated and we work closely with security staff and club officials to identify and monitor ‘risk supporters’.

“Offenders are dealt with strongly and we will always push for Football Banning Orders against these people.”

Football fans sentenced after trouble at Coventry City match on Boxing Day

Two men have been sentenced for their part in trouble which marred a Coventry City match.

The pair were arrested outside the Ricoh Arena shortly after the Sky Blues’ League One game against Port Vale on Boxing Day.

Dean Harris and Aston Hewitt-Parsons both appeared at Coventry Magistrates Court on Thursday to be sentenced.

Harris, 23, of Market Place, Warwick, pleaded guilty to two counts of assault and was fined a total of £300.

He was also ordered to pay £135 court costs, a £20 victim surcharge and £180 in compensation to the two victims - one will receive £120 and the other £60.

He was joined in the dock by 21-year-old Hewitt-Parsons, of Littleton Road, Warwick, who admitted possession of a class B drug.

He was fined £120 and made to pay £185 court costs and a £20 victim surcharge.
