Coventry City’s 2-0 win over rivals Derby on Saturday was marred when a small section of supporters clashed with police and stewards.

Trouble flared after a pocket of fans under the scoreboard in Singers Corner produced a ‘Sisu out’ banner and sang anti-Sisu chants.

One photograph shows a police officer putting a man in a headlock, while others show fans with out-stretched arms seemingly taunting officers and stewards.

Unconfirmed reports suggested one person was injured in a fall.

Fans writing on Sky Blue message boards yesterday claimed officials handled the situation badly.

One fan wrote: “It was such an idiotic decision for stewards and police to get involved.

“The anti-Sisu chants didn’t gather any pace until the stewards got involved, and the anger at the stewards was shown just by the chants becoming louder.”

No-one from West Midlands Police, West Midlands Ambulance Service or the football club was available for comment.
