Cardiff City target Ben Turner transfer

Malky Mackay admits he is "ongoing with things" as Cardiff City bid to sign defender Ben Turner from Championship rivals Coventry City.



Bluebirds boss Mackay had confirmed his club are in discussions with Coventry in a bid to sign the player before Wednesday's 2300 BST transfer deadline.

Reports suggest Cardiff have offered £750,000 for Turner plus their out-of-favour striker Jon Parkin.

"We'll see how that goes in the next few days," said Cardiff boss Mackay.

"We're ongoing with things."

Mackay has signed nine players since replacing Dave Jones as manager at the Cardiff City Stadium in June, but insists his rebuilding must continue.

Cardiff lost 12 players following their Championship play-off semi-final defeat to Reading last season and Mackay feels his side are still "under-strength".

The Welsh club want to bolster their defensive options and versatile former England under-19 international Turner is a target.

The 23-year-old, who has three years remaining on his Coventry contract, has made 93 appearances since graduating from the Sky Blues academy and won the club's 2008/09 season Player of the Year award.

But Turner underwent surgery on a knee injured playing against Leeds United in November 2010 and has not played since.

Cardiff striker Parkin, who has made just five starts since joining the Bluebirds in January, is thought to be a makeweight in the deal.

But Parkin told his Twitter site: "I am a Cardiff City player until I am told otherwise people. Love it down here and don't want to leave."

Turner is also apparently wanted by fellow Championship club Birmingham City but Mackay insists: "We're having a go at it.

"It is a process everyone is involved in and you're up against other clubs - our recruitment process will keep going and continue into the loan window.

"We are still way under strength."
