Coventry rescue stoppage-time point against Norwich
Haji Wright scored to rescue a draw for Coventry deep into added time of a dominant but wasteful Championship performance against Norwich.
The Canaries were heading for an unlikely victory through Mathias Kvistgaarden's first goal for the club.
They survived wave after wave of Sky Blues attacks as Ephron Mason-Clark, Victor Torp, Wright, Jack Rudoni and Brandon Thomas-Asante all missed chances for the hosts.
But, in the sixth minute of nine added on, USA international Wright tapped into an empty net after Vladan Kovacevic had saved from Ellis Simms to ensure Coventry's unbeaten start to the Championship continues.
Coventry will be relieved they were able to walk away with a point but on any other day they probably would be leaving the CBS Arena with all three.
Frank Lampard's side dominated from the start and could have taken an early lead through Mason-Clark's diving header, which came crashing back off the post.
The hosts were well on top but went behind against the run of play on 17 minutes as Jakov Medic threaded a fine pass through to Kvistgaarden on the edge of the area.
The Dane shifted the ball on to his left before shooting back across goal into the bottom corner for a tidy finish past Coventry keeper Carl Rushworth.
After that, the Sky Blues' pressure was relentless - but it was not until their 18th effort that they finally troubled the keeper, with Mason-Clark forcing a good save from Kovacevic with a shot from the left side of the box.
Wright missed another big chance, chipping over the bar from six yards, before Rudoni headed wide and then shot off target as the Coventry attacks kept coming.
Substitute Thomas-Asante's goalbound poke forced a brilliant save from Kovacevic, before Simms missed two attempts in quick succession.
Finally, with three minutes left in added time, the pressure told. Milan van Ewijk's terrific slide tackle stole the ball for Simms and his shot deflected off the onrushing Norwich keeper and went straight to an unmarked Wright, who could not miss from point-blank range.
Frank Lampard will want more accuracy from his attack as they managed just four shots on target from a total of 28, and one goal from an xG (Expected Goals) of 4.02 - Norwich, on the other hand, scored with their only effort on target.
Coventry City boss Frank Lampard told BBC CWR:
"It was a fanastic performance from the team, from minute one.
"We started the game really well and they score from their first little moment, but we continued all the way through and created a lot.
"We moved the ball really well, looked really sharp, everything you want in a performance, the only thing you're lacking is the win and that's because it's 'one of those days'.
"Then it's a test of character and they certainly stood up to that because we pushed until the end of the game.
"And barring the natural disappointment of the three points which you don't get, I'm really proud of the players."
