Sky Blues beat Steven Pressley's Cod Army

Steven Pressley received a warm reception from Coventry City fans in his first game in charge of Fleetwood Town but he was left disappointed as a last minute own goal cost the Cod Army a point at Highbury.

Although Pressley’s young side got on the attack early, clearly looking to make a good impression on their new manager, it was Coventry who finished the half the stronger, and would have been in front had it not been for a decent save from Chris Maxwell.

Ex-City defender Richard Wood headed wide of Reice Charles-Cook's near post from a corner, and Tony Mowbray’s men struggled to create clear cut chances in the opening exchanges when John Fleck went closest with a 25-yard drive straight at the keeper.

However, the visitors grew into the game, finally finding a bit of rhythm that resulted in Sam Ricketts hitting a low cross to the far post where Jacob Murphy slid in to get a good connection, only to be denied by Maxwell who spread himself well to make the save.

The home side again started the second-half brighter, and Ashley Hunter should have scored when he hit the post following a smart stop by Charles-Cook from David Ball.

City could have taken the lead after Murphy's effort struck the foot of the post, but Marc-Antoine Fortune was flagged offside when he got onto the rebound after Reda Johnson had an effort cleared off the line.

Eventually, the Sky Blues did get the winner - but it was in the dying moments as substitute George Thomas' effort was parried by Maxwell into the path of Wood, who could only steer the ball over the line.
