Coventry City are expected to begin interviewing nine candidates for the vacant managerial post this week, BBC Coventry & Warwickshire understands.

The Sky Blues received a high volume of applications for the position following the departure of Andy Thorn.

The club board has now created a short-list of nine to step into the breach at the Ricoh Arena.

It is not known whether the bookmakers' favourite, Oxford United boss Chris Wilder (pictured), is among the candidates.

Wilder was installed at the front-runner for the job last week, but U's chairman Ian Lenagan said that he was yet to receive an approach from Coventry for the 44-year-old.

If Wilder were to take the job, League Two Oxford would be entitled to compensation as he still has one year remaining on his contract at the Kassam Stadium.

Coventry have yet to confirm whether an appointee will be in place for Saturday's match against Tranmere.

Until the appointment is made, Richard Shaw and Lee Carsley will remain in charge on a caretaker basis.
