Coventry Council says it will be a long time before Coventry City take over the running of the Ricoh Arena.![]()
Bosses have been speaking after new Sky Blues Chairman Ken Dulieu yesterday stated that purchasing the stadium is his top priority and is a great way to raise much-needed cash.
He also said he was due to meet council officials about the issue tomorrow – something the city council has flatly denied.
Deputy Leader George Duggins has told Mercia, with owners SISU having to save the club with a £7 million pound cash injection on Monday, there are more pressing worries for the Coventry City board:
“We don’t believe that the public should have their hopes built-up. People need to understand that the club at the moment is in a mess financially.
“It is a total nonsense to suggest that if only they owned the Ricoh the problems they’ve got wouldn’t exist, they would do. We want to help the club succeed but we’re a long long way away from any viable plans.”
