How to receive email updates...

Postby dutchman » Wed Nov 11, 2009 1:18 am

email notifications are normally turned off by default. If you wish to be informed of a new post since you last visited the board please go to the User Control Panel (top left hand corner of this page) and set your board preferences as follows:

Many email service providers treat all message board notifications as "spam". If you have set your preferences as shown above and are still not receiving notifications please look in your spam folder to see if they are there.

A handful of email servers simply refuse to accept message board notifications even as spam. The chances of this are only about one in a hundred. If this is the case with your email provider I'm afraid there is nothing you can do short of finding another provider.

Thanks for the info Dutchy. The notifications are coming through fine now - but think I'll change my options. Just wanted to see if the system was working ok for you :P ;)

I'm still working on the forced login problem. It's by no means unique to this board but as yet nobody seems to know the cause?

One way around it is to click on the "view topic" link instead of the "view latest post" link. That of course takes you back to the first page of the topic which is not always ideal.

There are very few sites I subscribe-to which remember to log me in for every visit.

Thanks Dutchy - it's no big deal having to log in each time.

There's bound to be teething problems - it'll all come right eventually ;)

Auto-login feature is now working Polly, as far as I can tell?

I don't mind logging-in once, but to have to do it to read every single reply is a bit ridiculous. icCoventry lets me read replies without first logging-in, but in order to answer them I have to login all over again.

The emails seems to have stopped now?

I think I can guess why that is? Running a trace on it now. :geek:

Thanks for letting me know Polly. It was actually your email provider who was blocking them for reasons outside of my control. They might start blocking them again if there's another flood of spam from gmail addresses.
