Stan was concerned about his wife's hearing. The doctor suggested he stand 20 feet away from her, ask her a question, and see if she responded. If not, he should move progressively nearer until he got a response.

That evening when Mavis was cooking the dinner, Stan stood about 20 feet away from her.

"What's for dinner, Mavis?"

No response. He tried 15 feet.

"What's for dinner, Mavis?"

No response. He tried 10 feet.

"What's for dinner, Mavis?"

No response. He tried 5 feet.

"What's for dinner, Mavis?"
