In order to meet the conditions of the above EU directive, all citizens of the United Kingdom must be made aware that the phrase "Spending a penny" is not to be used after 31st March 2010. Use of this term will incur a £50 on the spot fine and will be administered rigidly by all local authorities.

As of the above date, the correct terminology will be:
