Top of the Pops' Christmas special has not been axed, the BBC has confirmed.
The Independent reported last month that new Channel 5 boss Richard Desmond would take advantage of the opportunity to air the long-running music show.
However, a BBC spokesperson told Music Week that no decision has been made over the programme, as it is too early in the year.
Top of the Pops pulled in 4.1m on Christmas Day last year, a 700k rise on 2009's instalment.
