Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight has given an update on the long-anticipated season 2 of period drama Taboo, starring Tom Hardy. Knight, who co-created Taboo with Hardy and his father, Chips Hardy, has recently weighed in on a possible second instalment.

Premiered in 2017, the 19th-century set show – lauded as a "masterpiece" and "thrilling from start to finish" by fans on IMDb – stars Hardy as James Keziah Delaney, an adventurer who returns to England after 12 years in Africa.

Also featuring Jessie Buckley, Oona Chaplin and Stephen Graham, the period drama zeroes in on crime and corruption in 1814 London as Delaney investigates his father's death.

Despite rumours of a second season starting production soon, a new batch of episodes never came to be.

Now, Knight has reignited hopes that fans will get to see Delaney again, confirming he and Hardy have discussed plans for a new chapter.

"Well, Tom and I have talked about it, and I think we know what we would do," he said (via Radio Times).

"It's just finding the space. But I'd love to, I get asked about it – especially in the States, actually – I get asked about it a lot."

Back in 2021, Hardy confirmed his commitment to Taboo, saying the series was "really, really important" and he and Knight were still "playing with ideas" to continue Delaney's story.

"The second season of Taboo is really, really important to me, and it’s taken a lot of thinking, because I really enjoyed the first one and I want to be really fulfilled by the second one," Hardy told Esquire.

He added: "We're still playing with ideas: you could go linear, a continuation of time, or we could drop prior to London, or we could quantum-leap through time! I don't know whether to go orthodox – there’s a series of that already written – but I don't know if that's the right way to go."

Meanwhile, all eight episodes of the first (and so far only) season of the show are available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
