Changes to the Freeview service, as part of the platform’s latest monthly update, will give more viewers access to ITVBe

Due to the way Freeview services are broadcast across the UK, some channels have wider UK coverage than others.

ITV is using capacity that’s become available alongside its main channel to add ITVBe. This means the channel is opening up to all viewers, even in areas where the full Freeview line-up isn’t available.

The new copy of ITVBe is now testing on Freeview channel 791. But that new copy of ITVBe is expected to move to channel 28 during Freeview’s next monthly channel update.

▶ What this means for Freeview viewers

  • At a future Freeview channel update, viewers who can already get ITVBe will need to retune to continue watching.
  • Viewers who normally only receive a small selection of Freeview channels will be able to get ITVBe for the first time. If this is you, you may find ITVBe already testing on channel 791.
ITVBe first launched in 2014 and is the home of a number of scripted and reality TV shows. In the morning, the channel screens programmes aimed at pre-school children.

Freeview typically makes an update to its channel list around one a month. Everyone TV, formerly Digital UK, likes to co-ordinate changes to reduce the number of retunes. While some are relatively minor, others require major intervention by viewers.

Not mentioned in the article, the picture quality has also been improved slightly to match the mainstream ITV channels.
