Freesat: Live Premier League moves to a new channel

If you use Freesat, make sure you don't switch to the wrong channel for live and free-to-air Premier League football, which starts this Friday

Following a number of changes to Sky's Pick channel, which will broadcast 25 of this season's remaining games on a free-to-air basis, Freesat users now have access to multiple versions of the channel, found on channels 144, 145 and 147.

The current channel allocations are:

  • 144 SD no football
  • 145 +1 (SD) no football
  • 147 HD with football
Freesat's channel list is automatically built in to newer Samsung and LG smart TVs for those viewers connected to a satellite dish, rather than an aerial, as well as via Freesat's own range of receivers.

Recordings
The Freesat EPG was changed earlier this week.

The live football was originally shown on the EPG as being broadcast on SD channel 144 and viewers were able to set recordings. However, Sky has changed the version of the channel assigned to Freesat, meaning that the SD channel is now football-free. Live football is only on the HD channel via Freesat.

Freesat SD-only receivers
If you use an older SD-only receiver, such as those widely sold between 2008 and 2012, you won't be able to access live Premier League via Freesat.
