4Music and 4seven are leaving their old Freeview capacity, some viewers will need to retune

Both stations have been carried on the same Freeview capacity since they launched on the platform. That is now changing, with both channels moving to another Freeview multiplex.

Channel numbers aren't changing and viewers with TVs that automatically adjust to these changes won't need to do anything.

For all other TVs and boxes, following a short transition period over the coming month during which 4Music and 4seven will continue on both old and new frequencies, a retune will be needed to keep the channels. Some older TVs and boxes may assign the new versions in the channel 800 range - a full retune or first time installation should restore them to their current numbers.

Behind the scenes, the changes follow a technical change made to Freeview multiplex COM5 last week, with the Arqiva operated multiplex from today carrying 16 standard definition TV channels. The change also sees Channel 4 grouping Film4+1, 4Music and 4seven together on the same frequency. As Sony Movies is still in a period of dual transmission and hasn't yet left COM5, there's currently no space for Together TV to run a full service until the 2nd June.

Technical details

  • 4Music - channel 29 - moved from COM6 to COM5. Old version moved to channel 793 on devices that have been retuned/have automatically retuned.
  • 4seven - channel 47 - moved from COM6 to COM5. Old version moved to channel 794 on devices that have been retuned/have automatically retuned.
  • Any device that has assigned 4Music or 4seven to a channel number in the 800s will need a full retune / first time installation or factory reset.
