Heartbeat actor Peter Benson has passed away after a short illness, aged 75
Heartbeat actor Peter Benson has passed away, aged 75.
The actor's agent confirmed the sad news that he had died on Thursday (September 6) after a short illness.
Benson was perhaps best known for playing Bernie Scripps in the ITV police drama series, a funeral director who got involved with disastrous money-making schemes.
As well as starring in all 18 series of the ITV show, he also played Henry VII in Blackadder and recently appeared in Casualty. On top of his TV work, Benson was known for his work on stage and for being a skilled singer and dancer.
Since the news broke, a number of stars have paid tribute, including fellow Heartbeat star Lisa Kay (Emma Bryden). She wrote on Instagram: "Such sad news that the wonderful Peter Benson has passed away.
"He was always a total gentleman and great fun to work with. He was dearly loved and shall be missed terribly by his Heartbeat family. RIP Peter."
