Still Open All Hours is still going strong, 45 years after Sir David Jason first played grocer Granville.

The BBC has ordered a fifth series of the Open All Hours follow-up sitcom, to go into production over the summer with Sir David reprising his leading role. New episodes will air later in the year.

"I'm thrilled to be bringing Granville and Arkwright's shop back to viewers' TV screens along with his regular customers who bring their own sense of barminess to the world of grocery," Sir David announced on Thursday (May 2).

Upcoming episodes will see Granville trying his best to unload a surplus of cheaply-made eyeglasses, and Mr. Newbold (Geoffrey Whitehead) and Mrs. Featherston (Stephanie Cole) finally coming clean about their true feelings for one another.

"We're delighted to see Granville flip over the sign on Arkwright's and open up for another series of Still Open All Hours," BBC Commissioning Editor Gregor Sharp announced.

"Its enduring popularity is a testament to the brilliance of Roy Clarke's scripts and the impeccable performances of a cast of comic legends at the height of their powers."

In addition to fan favourites Sir David Jason, Geoffrey Whitehead and Stephanie Cole, series five will also feature the return of veteran cast members James Baxter (Leroy), Maggie Ollerenshaw (Mavis), Brigit Forsyth (Madge), Johnny Vegas (Eric), Kulvinder Ghir (Cyril), Sally Lindsay (Kath), Katie Redford (Beth) and Tim Healy (Gastric).

Still Open All Hours premiered on the BBC back in 2013 to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Roy Clarke's beloved sitcom Open All Hours, which originally ran from 1973 to 1985.
