Actress Emma Chambers has died aged 53.

The British star was best known for playing Alice Tinker in the BBC's The Vicar of Dibley.

The Doncaster-born star also played ditsy Honey Thacker in 1999 Richard Curtis film Notting Hill alongside Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts.

A statement from her agency said Chambers died from natural causes and that she would be "greatly missed".

The statement read: "Emma created a wealth of characters and an immense body of work. She brought laughter and joy to many".

Chambers is survived by her husband, fellow actor Ian Dunn.

Alice played the role of Alice Tinker from 1994 to 2007 alongside comedian Dawn French.

In 1998, Chambers won the British Comedy Award for Best Actress for her performance.

Riding on a high from the win, she joined the cast of Notting Hill and portrayed the character of Honey Thacker - Hugh Grant's character Will's younger sister.

Her character became romantically involved with Rhys Ifans' Spike toward the end of the film.

She also famously walked into the toilet with Julia Roberts' character Anna Scott and insisted they be best friends.

That was a shock.

R.I.P.
Of course it'll fit; you just need a bigger hammer.
