BBC dominates Christmas Day TV ratings

ITV only took up two slots in the top 10

The BBC reigned supreme in the Christmas Day overnight ratings yesterday (December 25) – as the corporation took eight positions in the top 10 most-watched programmes list.

According to an official release from the BBC, it has been revealed that Mrs Brown's Boys was number one with an average audience of 6.8 million, followed by Strictly Come Dancing's Christmas special with 6.5m.

In third place was Call the Midwife with a 80 minute special being seen live by 6.3m.

EastEnders topped the ratings in terms of soaps, with their explosive episode also getting 6.3 million people glued to their screens – with Coronation Street's cliffhanger ep receiving 5.1m and Emmerdale's ambitious Robert Sugden edition garnering 3.7m.

The Queen's Speech had 5.9m, while Peter Capaldi's last appearance as the Twelfth Doctor in Doctor Who got 5.7m. The BBC News and The Highway Rat came in eighth and ninth position, respectively.

Charlotte Moore, Director of BBC Contents said:

"Millions of people chose BBC One on Christmas Day and came together to enjoy the top six most popular programmes from comedy, drama and entertainment, with Mrs Brown's Boys returning to the top spot."

As I've said before, I'm not much of a TV watcher. However, over the holidays I've been forced to sit with the good lady and view TV. What a load of rubbish!

They can spout their viewing figures all they like, but to my mind it's a meaningless figure. - Apart from attracting advertising revenue which maybe ought the way the BBC is funded in future.
Of course it'll fit; you just need a bigger hammer.
