Pan's People founding member Ruth Pearson has sadly died at the age of 70.

The Mirror reports that she passed away on Tuesday morning (June 27) after a battle with cancer. Pearson is the fourth member of the Top of the Pops dance troupe to pass away in recent years.

Pearson formed Pan's People with Flick Colby, Babs Lord, Louise Clarke, Dee Dee Wilde and Andi Rutherford in 1966, and was formerly a member of The Beat Girls.

"She had a wicked sense of humour, 'joie de vivre' by the bucket loads and, when partying, never let the side down by having one drink too few. I miss her terribly," said Wilde. "Here's to when we all meet again in that dance studio in the sky."

Lord recalled meeting up with Pearson and Wilde last week for lunch, and hope she was now "dancing with Pan among the stars".

"Ruth insisted we went back to her home in Wimbledon to enjoy a glass of champagne and a slice of cake… a wonderful lasting memory of a brave and inspiring lady," Lord enthused.

"She put up such a brave fight even knowing that her illness was terminal… she said that she would have loved a little longer, but had no complaints. I've had some great memories, of both family and wonderful friends."

Fellow Pan's People founding members Colby, Clarke and Rutherford died in 2011, 2012 and 2014, respectively.

Pan's People appeared on Top of the Pops throughout the 1960s and 1970s when an artist couldn't appear on the show, and last appeared on the programme in April 1976, dancing to 'Silver Star' by The Four Seasons.
