Question - Big Centre TV

Question - Big Centre TV

Postby rebbonk » Sat Jul 09, 2016 5:36 pm

Does anyone in Coventry get Big Centre TV on Freeview or freesat? - I believe ch7 or 8.
Of course it'll fit; you just need a bigger hammer.

Afraid not! The Freeview signal is broadcast at very low strength and away from the direction of Coventry. Even with a very powerful aerial like the one I've got there's no signal. This map shows the reception area for local broadcasting:

Also it's not available on Freesat and is never likely to be for legal reasons.

Following achange to our aerial system last week I was able to pull in the Birmingham local stations this morning when the sun was shining. You're not missing much. Most of them are kiddy cartoon channels. Big Centre TV has now been replaced by 'Made in Birmingham', it has a few local documentaries but is mainly repeats of old shows such as Judge Judy and Bondi Vet. Even with an aerial system as powerful as ours the picture still occasionally broke up.

The local Birmingham multiplex completely disappeared on UHF Channel 51 last night. They were due to reappear on UHF Channel 48 today but so far I've been unable to detect any signal at all.

EDIT: Since posting that I have managed to pick up brief flashes of signal but they're unusable due to sveral other transmitters in the area also now using UHF Channel 48 including nearby Lark Stoke.

For whatever reason I am now able to able receive all the Birmingham local channels on UHF Channel 48 with 100% signal strength and quality. These include:

  • Birmingham TV LCN7
  • True Entertainment LCN48
  • True Movies LCN50
  • Sony Movie Channel +1 LCN62
(LCN = Local Channel Number)

I do have a very powerful aerial though mounted on a four-storey high roof so others' experience may vary.
