Good news, Creek geeks - Jonathan Creek​ is coming back to BBC One!



Alan Davies confirmed exclusively to ​Digital Spy ​that a new one-off special will shoot this summer.

"We're doing it in the summer - we're shooting a 90-minute one-off," he told DS.

"It's 20 years since the first series. 20 years! It's unbelievable. I'll try and drop a few pounds so I'm not fat Creek."

Davies revealed that Sarah Alexander will also be back for the special as Jonathan's wife Polly Creek.

Jonathan Creek first aired on BBC One in 1997, with Caroline Quentin, Julia Sawalha and Sheridan Smith all previously appearing alongside Davies.

"It's a tribute to [series creator and writer] David Renwick," he said of the show's longevity. "He obeys all the classic rules of classic television and employs them to his benefit - so the show is perfect television."

The last series of ​Creek ​- a three-episode run - aired in early 2014.

We've finally got a date for the Christmas return of Jonathan Creek to BBC One - not to mention a bit more information as to what Jonathan will be getting up to this time.

Jonathan (Alan Davies) and his wife Polly (Sarah Alexander) will be spending Christmas at the dark and moody-sounding Daemons' Roost on Wednesday, December 28 at 9pm.

The new 90-minute episode is set to be a horror filled supernatural tale exploring telekinesis and a hidden mystery spanning 150 years.

In the episode, Jonathan is summoned to Daemons' Roost by a former customer whose father-in-law - a renowned 1970s horror film director - has suffered a stroke leaving him unable to speak and tell his daughter the chilling truth of what happened to their family at the house when she was a child.

Throw in a 150-year-old legend that a 19th century sorcerer used to summon the powers of Hell to the house to terrorise his victims, as well as the fact that a psychopathic killer with a score to settle is already on Jonathan's trail, and it's a frightening festive treat that awaits us.

Joining Alan Davies and Sarah Alexander will be Ken Bones as the director Nathan Clore, Georgie Lord as his stepdaughter Alison, and Emun Elliot as her husband, Stephen.

Warwick Davis will also appear as Creek fan Reverend Wendell Wilkie.
