David Beckham documentary among the leads on Tuesday

BBC One documentary David Beckham: For the Love of the Game led the TV ratings on Tuesday (December 29), coming second only to the channel's Celebrity Mastermind earlier in the evening.

Beckham's football documentary saw the star take part in seven matches on each of the world's continents and 3.64m (18.1%) tuned in as Beckham travelled everywhere from Argentina to Antarctica at 9pm.

Meanwhile, 4.22m (20.2%) were entertained by Celebrity Mastermind earlier in the evening at 7pm when Vincent Franklin, Christian Malcolm, Chris Warburton and Graham Fellows answered the questions.

Over on BBC Two, 2.38m (10.8%) were interested in Christmas University Challenge at 7.30pm to see Money Saving Expert's Martin Lewis answer Jeremy Paxman's questions, followed by the first part of Gareth Malone's Great Choir Reunion at 8pm (1.97m, 9.3%).

The rest of the evening on BBC Two was a Stephen Fry special, with documentary A Life on Screen: Stephen Fry entertaining 1.45m (7%) at 9pm, followed by a Fry-hosted edition of QI at 10pm with panellists Sarah Millican and Josh Widdicombe delighting 1.42m (7.5%).

Elsewhere, The Amazing Spider-Man took over ITV at 7.30pm, drawing in a peak audience of 1.96m (9.2%) with a further 187k (1%) joining in the web-slinging action on ITV +1.

The 8 out of 10 Cats New Year Special led the night on Channel 4 at 9pm where host Jimmy Carr and captains Sean Lock and Jon Richardson were joined by Joey Essex, Romesh Ranganathan, Isy Suttie and Richard Osman to entertain 1.24m (6%).

The rest of the night on Channel 4 was taken over by repeats, with Inside Lego at Christmas drawing 0.94m (4.4%), The Supervet at Christmas interesting 1.16m (5.5%) and Jimmy Carr's Big Fat Quiz of the Year keeping 0.76m (5.5%).

Meanwhile, a showing of the film adaption of VC Andrews's Flowers in the Attic at 9pm won the night on Channel 5 with an audience of 1105.8k (5.6%), while Help! I'm Snowtrapped interested 646.1k (3.1%) earlier in the evening at 8pm.
