BBC One's nature special Snow Chick thawed the hearts of viewers and led last night's primetime ratings outside of soaps.
Narrated by Kate Winslet, the hour-long documentary was seen by 3.68m (17.5%) from 8.30pm, according to overnight data. Alison Steadman's sitcom Boomers followed at 9.30pm with 2.41m.
Over on ITV, Philip Glenister's three-part thriller Prey wrapped with 2.04m (9.8%) at 9pm, with a further 153k (1%) on +1.
Cherry Healey's documentary Christmas Shopping Fever: John Lewis and the Retail Race aired to 2.31m (12%) from 9.30pm, lifting the lid on the department store's festive prep - including its flagship TV ad.
Channel 4's documentary Posh Pawn at Christmas fascinated 1.15m (5.5%) from 8pm (+1 132k/0.6%), followed by 1.5m (7.2%) for 24 Hours in A&E at 9pm (+1: 240k/1.5%)
Matt Berry's sitcom Toast of London - featuring cameos from a host of guest stars including Jude Law and Martin Freeman - finished its third series with 360k (2%) at 10pm.
Meanwhile, Channel 5's Can't Pay? We'll Take It Away! concluded with 1.26m (6%) at 9pm, and Detectorists' Christmas special entertained 547k (3%) at 10pm on BBC Four.
