ITV's trustworthy Lewis proved the biggest attraction on Tuesday night outside soaps on a rather quiet evening.
The drama brought in an average overnight audience of 3.79 million (17.1%) at 9pm (238,000/1.7% on +1).
BBC One's big new drama River lost a million viewers for its second episode, dropping to 2.84m (13.6%) at 9pm.
On BBC Two, James May's Building Cars Live appealed to 2.19m (10.9%) at 7.30pm, followed by The Naked Choir with 1.65m (7.9%) at 9pm.
Channel 4's Obsessive Compulsive Cleaners attracted 1.26m (6.2%) at 8pm (278k/1.3%), while 24 Hours in A&E was seen by 1.88m (9.0%) at 9pm (308k/2.1%).
On Channel 5, The Yorkshire Vet interested 1.33m (6.6%) at 8pm, while BBC Three's Being Gay in Pakistan fascinated 611k (2.9%) at 9pm.
On E4, Empire thrilled 320k (1.5%) at 9pm (123k/0.6%). Over on Sky 1, The Flash attracted 426k (2.1%) at 8pm, followed by The Moaning of Life with 470k (2.3%) at 9pm.
