Australian cricketer and commentator Richie Benaud has died at the age of 84.
Benaud had been undergoing radiation treatment for skin cancer since November last year.
He was reportedly admitted to a hospital in Sydney and passed away in his sleep surrounded by his wife Daphne and other family members.
Benaud was a pioneering leg-spin bowler and played in 63 Tests including 28 as captain. He retired in 1964 to pursue a career in broadcasting.
He undertook a successful commentary career in England and his final UK broadcast came during the 2005 Ashes series.
Benaud continued to work for Channel Nine in Australia until 2013.
