The Voice UK series premiere watched by 8 million on BBC One

The new series of BBC One's The Voice UK opened to more than 8 million viewers last night (January 10), according to overnight figures.

The first episode of blind auditions - which featured singers including Hannah Symons and Stevie McCrorie - earned 8.05m (35.9%) from 7pm.

The National Lottery: Win Your Wish List followed with 4.87m (22.7%), and Casualty treated 4.97m (23.5%) from 9.20pm.

On BBC Two, a Dad's Army repeat garnered 2.28m (10.6%) from 8.30pm before Britain's Tudor Treasure: A Night at Hampton Court appealed to 1.75m (8.2%).

ITV's Harry Hill's Stars in Their Eyes premiered to 3.41m (15.3%) from 7pm, with Take Me Out entertaining 3.18m (14.5%) afterwards (+1: 426k/2%). An airing of James Bond film Skyfall drew 2.4m (11.9%) from 9.20pm.

On Channel 4, Tsunami: 10 Years On was watched by 781k (3.5%) in the 8pm hour. Cameron Diaz movie Bad Teacher notched 1.07m (5.2%) later on.

Over on Channel 5, 2.05m (10.6%) tuned in from 10pm to see Jeremy Jackson exit Celebrity Big Brother.

ITV3's Midsomer Murders topped the multichannels, with 1.10m (5.1%) from 8pm.
