Broadchurch returned for its second series with high ratings for ITV on Monday (January 5), overnight data reveals.
David Tennant and Olivia Colman's crime drama thrilled an average audience of 7.25 million (28.9%) at 9pm on ITV, with an added 298,000 (1.8%) watching on +1.
This is down from April 2013's finale overnight ratings of 9.27m viewers, but is up from its first series opener score of 6.15m.
Earlier, Richard Wilson's series On the Road appealed to 3.91m (16.9%) at 8pm (122k/0.5% on +1).
BBC One's live FA Cup coverage of Liverpool's win over AFC Wimbledon scored 5.58m (22.9%) from 7.30pm.
On BBC Two, University Challenge quizzed 2.60m (10.9%) at 8pm, followed by Only Connect with 2.05m (8.1%) at 8.30pm.
Rich, Russian and Living in London brought in 1.31m (5.2%) at 9pm, while Jack Whitehall's Backchat returned on its new channel with 979k (5.4%) at 10pm.
Channel 4's Food Unwrapped was seen by 1.78m (7.3%) at 8pm (167k/0.7%), followed by the return of The Undateables with 1.90m (7.6%) at 9pm (497k/3.0%), and Bodyshockers with 1.53m (9.5%) at 10pm (358k/4.4%).
On Channel 5, 70-Stone Man: The Last Days interested 892k (3.7%) at 8pm, while Benefits: Too Fat To Work gathered 1.47m (5.8%) at 9pm (232k/1.4%).
