Commonwealth Games tops Friday ratings with 3.73m viewers

BBC One's live Commonwealth Games coverage was the most popular show outside of soaps on Friday, attracting an average audience of 3.17 million (18.1%).

The evening's entertainment peaked with an audience of 3.73 million (20.5%) at 9pm. An average of 1.49 million (12.9%) stuck around to watch Tonight at the Games at 10.45pm.

ITV One's showing of The Cruise Ship wasn't too far behind, entertaining an average of 2.62 million (14.9%) at 8pm.

The 9pm showing of Doc Martin was viewed by 2.09 million (11.5%) after the final visit to Coronation Street.

One-hour special The Secret History of Our Streets was BBC Two's highest-rated show with 1.61 million (8.8%), narrowly beating Gardener's World with 1.54 million (8.3%).

After 790k tuned in to watch Flog It! Trade Secrets on BBC Two at 7pm , the evening continued with 1.11 million (6.7%) for the RHS Flower Show.

With an audience of 1.2 million (6.56%), Alan Carr: Chatty Man was Channel 4's highest-rated show, beating Friday Night Dinner with 990k (5.8%) and The Million Pound Drop with 640k (3.51%).

Over on Channel 5, the latest Big Brother live eviction was seen by 1.2 million (6.7%), while 718k (5.8%) stuck around for Big Brother's Bit on the Side.

The 11.25pm showing of Family Guy on BBC Three proved popular, attracting 642k (6.9%) viewers as part of a triple-bill.
