Brazil v Netherlands World Cup match peaks at 9 million

The World Cup game between Brazil and the Netherlands was caught by more than 9 million viewers on ITV yesterday (July 12), according to overnight figures.

The third place playoff - in which the Dutch convincingly beat the hosts 3-0 - averaged 7.3m (38.3%) from 8.30pm, but peaked towards the end of the match, as 9.09m (48.2%) tuned in at 10.30pm.

On BBC One, Casualty took 3.82m (19.2%) from 8.30pm. Later, an airing of the first Pirates of the Caribbean film was watched by 1.54m (9.5%).

BBC Two's Dad's Army had 1.43m (7.5%) viewers from 8.30pm before The Men Who Made Us Spend had 868k (4.2%).

On Channel 4, Grand Designs appealed to 810k (4.5%) from 8pm. Knight and Day, starring Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz, entertained 818k (4.2%) afterwards.

The latest Big Brother was seen by 872k (4.2%) on Channel 5 from 9pm.

Preceding it was MH370: The Flight That Vanished with 596k (3.3%). 10pm's The Trial of Gillian Taylforth had 467k (2.4%).

ITV3's Endeavour topped the multichannels with 569k (2.9%) from 9pm.

An episode of Storage Hunters drew in 431k (2.6%) from 7.30pm on Dave, and Paolo Nutini's headlining set at T in the Park was enjoyed by 322k from 10pm on BBC Three.
