World Cup semi-final attracts 9.7 million on Wednesday

The second World Cup 2014 semi-final topped the ratings on Wednesday evening, according to overnight data.

ITV's coverage of Argentina's penalty shootout win over the Netherlands scored 9.72 million (50.2%) viewers at 8.30pm on average. It peaked at 12.49m (53.2%) at around 9.30pm.

Earlier, You've Been Framed amused 2.89m (16.5%) at 8pm (104,000/0.4% on +1).

On BBC One, a repeat of Death in Paradise appealed to 2.21m (9.3%) at 9pm.

BBC Two's RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show coverage continued with 1.89m (10.1%) at 8pm, followed by Coast Australia with 1.17m (4.9%) at 9pm and the Episodes finale with 489k (2.2%) at 10pm.

On Channel 4, This Old Thing: Vintage Clothes Show gathered 886k (4.7%) at 8pm (107k/0.5%). One Born Every Minute interested 1.34m (5.6%) at 9pm (228k/1.1%).

Channel 5's Brand New House for £5k attracted 626k (3.3%) at 8pm. Hotel Inspector Returns was seen by 885k (3.7%) at 9pm (125k/0.6%), while Big Brother entertained 1.09m (5.0%) at 10pm.

On ITV2, I Wanna Marry Harry attracted 255k (1.1%) at 9pm, followed by The Only Way Is Essex with 616k (2.8%) at 10pm.

Sky1's 24: Live Another Day thrilled 218k (0.9%) at 9pm.
