Ripper Street topped Monday night's ratings outside of soaps despite a large drop, overnight data reveals.
The BBC One drama lost over 700,000 viewers, dipping to 4.34 million (18.9%) at 9pm.
On BBC Two, University Challenge quizzed 3.18m (13.1%) at 8pm, followed by MasterChef: The Professionals with 3.19m (13.0%) at 8.30pm.
The Choir returned for a new series with 2.66m (11.6%) at 9pm, while Huey Morgan's strop on Never Mind the Buzzcocks entertained 1.25m (6.8%) at 10pm.
ITV's Tales from Northumbria brought in 3.57m (14.8%) at 8pm (105k/0.5% on +1). Martin Clunes drama A Mother's Son interested 3.24m (14.2%) at 9pm (217k/1.3%).
On Channel 4, 999 attracted 1.52m (6.7%) at 9pm (292k/1.8%). Fresh Meat returned for a new series, amusing 929k (5.6%) at 10pm (128k/1.6%).
Channel 5's The Woman with 40 Cats fascinated 1.32m (5.8%) at 9pm (168k/1.0%). Under the Dome continued with 946k (5.7%) at 10pm.
On BBC Four, Only Connect attracted 913k (3.7%) at 8.30pm. On Sky1, the latest Arrow thrilled 460k (1.9%).
E4's Made in Chelsea climbed back to 548k (3.4%) at 10pm (150k/1.9%). ITV2's Peter Andre: My Life appealed to 637k (2.8%) at 9pm (121k/0.7%).
