'Doc Martin' returns with over 7.5 million viewers on Monday

Doc Martin returned to top the ratings outside of soaps on Monday evening (September 2), according to overnight data.

The Martin Clunes drama interested 7.60 million (32.6%) at 9pm on ITV, with a further 362,000 (2.1%) tuning in on +1. However, this is nearly 3 million down from its last episode back in 2011.

Earlier, Ben Fogle's Countrywise returned for a new series with 2.93m (13.3%) at 8pm (140k/0.6% on +1).

On BBC One, Fight Back Britain gathered 2.46m (11.0%) at 8.30pm, followed by Motorway Cops with 2.30m (9.9%) at 9pm.

BBC Two's University Challenge quizzed 2.72m (12.3%) at 8pm, while The Incredible Spice Men cooked up 1.34m (6.0%) at 8.30pm.

On Channel 4, 'poverty expert' Jamie Oliver's Money Saving Meals appealed to 1.50m (6.8%) at 8pm (235k/1.0%). Richard Ayoade's Gadget Man brought in 1.47m (6.5%) at 8.30pm (133k/0.6%).

Channel 5's Celebrity Big Brother rose to 1.92m (8.2%) at 9pm (251k/1.5%). Under the Dome continued with 1.13m (6.5%) at 10pm (132k/1.4%).
