The compact device grants viewers access to 150 free television and radio channels, six of which air in high definition.

Connecting the box up to the internet grants users access to catch-up and on-demand services, such as BBC iPlayer and ITV Player.

"Technically the new Freesat Manhattan box is a superb product, very robust and with high quality performance at a really attractive price point," said Matthew Huntington, Freesat's chief technology officer.

"We are excited about being able to bring to market this latest addition, adding to our range of digital satellite HD boxes and integrated HDTVs.

"This new box extends the scope of HD viewing to viewers wanting to choose a really excellent value option or those looking to add Freesat HD to a second or third room in their home. It's a smart choice for many reasons."

Additional features include an eight-day programming guide, optional parental controls, digital text and audio description functionality.

The latest Freesat HD box is available from today (August 12) through retailers including John Lewis and Currys PC World for £49.
