The Ice Cream Girls continued with 3.9m viewers (17.7%) on Friday at 9pm, overnight data shows.
The second episode of the three-part series, based on the 2010 book by Dorothy Koomson, was down 950k on last week's opener.
On BBC One, the Masterchef semi-finals earned 4.82m (21.2%) at 8.30pm and Have I Got News for You had 4.77m (21.9%) an hour later.
Earlier, The One Show brought in 3.61m (19.5%) at 7pm, while A Question of Sport attracted 2.82m (14.1%) at 7.30pm. The Graham Norton Show amused 3.2m (23.8%) at 10.45pm.
Over on BBC Two, The Genius of Turner: Painting the Industrial Revolution interested 1.17m (5.3%) at 9pm. Gardener's World grabbed 1.96m (8.6%) half an hour earlier.
The Martin Lewis Money Show brought 3m (14.1%) to ITV at 8pm and movie 2 Fast 2 Furious attracted 700k (7.4%) from 10.45pm.
Meanwhile, Channel 4's Ben Earl: Trick Artist mustered 920k (4.1%) at 8pm and Alan Carr's latest Chatty Man, which saw JLS member Oritsé Williams break down in tears over the band's split, was watched by 1.31m (7.9%) at 10pm.
The Mentalist was seen by 953k (4.6%) on Channel 5 at 9pm, while Iceland: Ashcloud Apocalypse earned 958k (4.3%) in the preceding hour.
Family Guy performed best across the digital channels, earning 652k (6.9%) for BBC Three at 11.26pm.
