'Black Mirror' stays above 1 million on Channel 4

Charlie Brooker's Black Mirror ratings declined for its second episode, early viewing figures show.

Brooker's self-penned zombie story 'White Bear' attracted 1.04 million (6.1%) to Channel 4 in the 10pm hour, adding 178,000 an hour later on +1.

Some 200k worse off than last week's series two opener, Black Mirror has now fallen behind Brooker's other programme Weekly Wipe, which had 1.1m last Thursday.

Her Majesty's Prison: Aylesbury, ITV's new documentary series, pulled in a decent 5.05m (20.6%) and 508k on +1, beating BBC One's Penguins: Spy in the Huddle, which nevertheless grew to 4.9m (20%).

Elsewhere, University Challenge was BBC Two's top-rated broadcast with 2.67m (10.9%) from 8pm, while Police Interceptors delivered 860k (5%) - 5's biggest audience of the night - at the same time.

Overall, ITV clinched a fairly comfortable primetime win with 23.9% (+1: 1%), above BBC One's 19.2%. BBC Two claimed third place with 7.6%, outperforming Channel 4's 4.6% (+1: 0.9%), and Channel 5's 2.8% (+1: 0.2%).

BBC Four's history documentary Chivalry and Betrayal: The Hundred Years War was the most-watched multichannel programme, interesting 764k (3.1%) in the 9pm hour.
