'Last Tango in Halifax' ends on high note for BBC One

Last Tango in Halifax concluded with an impressive audience last night (Wednesday, December 19), overnight viewing data shows.

BBC One's six-part romantic drama pulled in a series high of 6.29 million (a 26.6% share) for its climax, which aired the night after Tuesday's penultimate episode.

Last Tango in Halifax thrashed ITV's The Town, after the three-part series starring Andrew Scott ended with a low of 1.55m (6.6%) and 404,000 on +1, its audience more than halving week-on-week.

Benefiting from a Coronation Street lead-in, Weight Loss Ward fared better for ITV in the 8pm hour with 3.01m (13.4%) as well as 171k on timeshift.

At the same time, Snow Babies (4.53m/20.1%) won the slot for BBC One and All About The Good Life (1.66m/7.4%) aired on BBC Two, while Kirstie's Vintage Christmas served up 1.28m (5.7%) for Channel 4 (+1: 173k) and 1.33m (5.9%) watched the 5 documentary Building the Panama Canal.

Chris Tarrant's Extreme Railways logged 1.27m (5.4%) for 5 at 9pm (+1: 102k), while Heston's Fantastical Christmas attracted 1.58m (6.7%) to Channel 4 (+1: 243k), and 1.6m (6.8%) caught BBC Two's The Christmas No.1 Story.

Channel 4's The Twins Who Share a Body got the better of Rhod Gilbert's Work Experience on BBC Two, the former averaging 1.34m (7.4%) at 10pm (+1: 191k) while Gilbert had 1.18m (6%).

Overall, BBC One beat ITV1 in primetime with 21.8% versus 15.2% (+1: 1.2%). BBC Two claimed third place with 6.5%, ahead of Channel 4's 5.4% (+1: 0.9%) and Channel 5's 4.2% (+1: 0.2%).
