Freesat has agreed a deal with Sky to add a range of channels to its subscription-free satellite platform, including Sky News, Pick TV and Challenge TV.

Sky News is now available on Freesat channel 202, delivering 24-hour rolling news coverage produced by an award-winning global operation.

The channel joins the already available news networks on Freesat, including BBC News Channel, NHK World, CNBC, CNN, Bloomberg, and al-Jazeera English.

Channel 144 is the new Freesat home for Pick TV, the channel that was formerly Sky3, which shows programmes such as Are You Smarter Than A Ten Year Old?, Coach Trip and Road Wars, along with highlights from Sky1 and Sky Arts.

Last week, Pick TV also started offering regular nightly one-minute bulletins from Sky News.

Available on Freesat channel 145, Challenge TV offers play-along TV and a range of well-known gameshow formats. The channel is already aired on fellow subscription-free platform Freeview.

"We're delighted that Sky News is joining Freesat. It's an award-winning news service that strengthens and complements Freesat's existing lineup of eleven news channels," said Emma Scott, Freesat's managing director.

"With Challenge TV and Pick TV joining today too, the breadth of choice for our viewers, for free, has never been better."

Two points:

1) These channels were already available for those using their Freesat receivers in "non-Freesat" mode. The only real difference is that they're now listed in the Freesat TV guide.

2) Sky News HD is still not included on any free-to-air platform which is a pity as I regard it as superior to anything the BBC has to offer.
