The US sitcom's latest episode brought in 1.18m (5.3%) for E4 and 258k (1.1%) on +1, rebounding sharply from last week's dip.

However, 2 Broke Girls - which started so strongly last month - declined further to 495k (2.2%) at 9pm (+1: 495k).

Russell Howard's Good News was BBC Three's best-rated show of the night with 920k (4%) at 9pm, while 601k (2.8%) watched Tales of the Television Centre on BBC Four.

Terrestrial ratings stayed steady, as Long Lost Family grabbed 4.53m (19.8%) at 9pm (+1: 170k) to maintain its lead over BBC One's New Tricks repeat, which had 3.87m (17%).

Channel 4's The Hoarder Next Door logged 2.36m (10.3%) and an impressive 479k on timeshift, while The Restaurant Inspector could only pick up 639k (2.8%) for Channel 5.

Versus ITV's soaps in the 8pm hour, Planet Earth Live gave BBC One an audience of 3.65m (16.1%), while Phil Spencer: Secret Agent interested 1.33m (5.9%) on Channel 4 (+1: 133k), and Two Greedy Italians (1.25m/5.5%) and World's Scariest Drivers (763k/3.4%) aired on BBC Two and Channel 5 respectively.

Simon Amstell's Grandma's House rallied to 698k (3.6%) at 10pm, but was behind movie Smash on Channel 5, which mustered 913k (6.6%).

Overall, ITV led primetime with 22.2% (+1: 0.7%), ahead of BBC One's 20.2%. Channel 4 claimed third place with 6.6% (+1: 1%), followed by BBC Two's 6.3%, and Channel 5's 3.7% (+1: 0.1%).

Personally I thought "The Hawking Excitation" was the least funny installment of this season of The Big Bang Theory. Guest starring Professor Stephen Hawking, it was originally shown during the fortnight when the official ratings are compiled in the USA. (Likewise the Leonard Nimoy special).

This week's "The Hoarder Next Door" dealt with a similar problem to last week's "Britain's Biggest Hoarders". Channel 4 however managed to elicit some sympathy for the middle-aged widow and her teenage son in a way which the earlier BBC documentary totally failed.
