Charlie Brooker's 'Screenwipe' 2011 review interests 530,000

Charlie Brooker's end-of-year Screenwipe review appealed to just under 530,000 viewers last night (Friday).

Featuring contributions from filmmaker Adam Curtis and Scottish comic Brian Limond, the irreverant lookback pulled in 529k (3.3%) for BBC Four at 10.30pm, one of the best-rated multichannel broadcasts of the evening.

In a flat night for the terrestrial channels, Have I Got News For You (4.32m/17.5%) at 8.30pm, a repeat of New Tricks (4.5m/19.2%) in the 9pm hour, and The Graham Norton Show (3.3m/18.3%) from 10.35pm helped BBC One to an easy primetime victory with an average of 20.1%.

Trailing way behind was ITV1, which suffered slot losses for That was 2011: ITV News Review of the Year (1.95m/7.6%) at 8pm, You've Been Framed (3.1m/12.5%) at 8.30pm and A Royal Year to Remember (2.2m/9.4%) at 9pm. Overall, the network had a 14.9% (+1: 0.7%) share of the audience.

Over on BBC Two (8%), The Many Faces of Judi Dench drew 2.64m (10.5%) at 8pm and 1.51m (6.4%) watched Mrs Dickens' Family Christmas an hour later, while Channel 5 (5% overall) found decent audiences for World's Strongest Man (1.2m/4.8%) and Most Shocking Celebrity Moments (1.32m/7.1%).

Meanwhile, Bear's Wild Weekend with Miranda (1.16m/4.6%), The Angelos Neil Epithemiou Show (966k/4.1%) and Lee Evans: Access All Arenas (1.29m/5.9%) gave Channel 4 a 4.5% (+1: 0.8%) share.
