The BBC One dance contest peaked at a massive 11.52m during the second half of the 7pm show.
Merlin followed with 6.01m (23%) at 8.15pm and
Casualty rounded off the broadcaster's primetime offering with 4.34m (17.1%).
On ITV1,
Harry Hill's TV Burp amused 4.7m (18.2%) from 7.30pm, attracting a further 142k (0.5%) on +1.
The X Factor's final five performed in front of 9.99m viewers (38.4%) from 8pm, and 245k (1%) chose to catch up with the episode an hour later.
I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! averaged 8.23m (35.4%), while 222k (1.4%) chose to watch on timeshift.
BBC Two's
TV Greats: Our Favourites From The North helped 1.51m (5.8%) reminisce about the televisual treats of years gone by from 8.15pm, and
QI XL entertained 1.41m (5.6%) at 9.15pm.
Channel 4's primetime schedule had a soft opening with
Tony Robinson's Gods and Monsters, which intrigued 880k (3.4%) at 8.15pm. The broadcaster's fortunes improved later on, as
GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra thrilled 1.32m (6.1%). The Hollywood blockbuster held a solid timeshift audience of 250k (1.7%).
An Audience with Ronnie Corbett on Channel 5 limped to 661k (2.5%) before CSI reduced the audience to 591k (2.4%) at 9.15pm.
ITV3's 9pm episode of
Foyle's War was the most popular multichannel broadcast of the night, nabbing 831k and a 3.6% audience share. ITV2's
I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! Now! was a close second with 828k (5.3%) at 10.45pm.
On BBC Four,
The Killing took 757k (3%) and on ITV2,
The Xtra Factor secured 482k (2.1%).
The one-two punch of
X Factor and
I'm a Celebrity earned ITV1 a primetime win on an audience share of 31.4%. BBC One and Two followed with 26.3% and 5% respectively. Further down the list, Channel 4 had 4% while Channel 5 conjured 2.8%.
