Inspector George Gently intrigues 5.9m on Wednesday night

Inspector George Gently topped the ratings outside of soaps on Wednesday (May 6), according to overnight data.

The drama series brought in 5.90m (27.9%) at 8pm, while Peter Kay's Car Share followed with 5.15m (24.1%) at 9.30pm.

On BBC Two, Coast Australia interested 910k (5.0%) at 7pm, before Inside the Factory: How Our Favourite Foods Are Made was seen by 2.14m (10.4%), and Charlie Brooker's Election Wipe gathered 1.87m (8.6%) at 9pm. QI followed with 1.35m (7.9%) at 10pm.

ITV's Give a Pet a Home continued with 2.03m (9.9%) at 8pm (1190k/0.5% on +1), while Newzoids amused 1.57m (7.0%) at 9pm (149k/0.9%). The Delivery Man averaged 1.10m (5.2%) at 9.30pm (76k/0.6%).

Channel 4's The Island with Bear Grylls continued with 2.11m (9.7%) at 9pm (287k/1.9%), while Ballot Monkeys entertained 990k (5.9%) at 10pm (87k/0.9%).

Channel 5's The Nightmare Neighbour Next Door shocked 1.20m (5.9%) at 8pm (60k/0.3%), before Autopsy brought in 842k (3.8%) at 9pm (72k/0.5%).

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides appealed to 820k (3.9%) on BBC Three at 8pm, while Jane the Virgin dropped to 114k (0.5%) on E4 at 9pm.
