The annual BBC charity telethon, which started in 1980, featured the much-anticipated reunion of S Club 7, a first look at Doctor Who's Christmas special, Bruce Forsyth's Strictly Come Dancing return and One Direction performing in EastEnders' Albert Square.

The fundraiser was hosted by Sir Terry Wogan, Tess Daly, Nick Grimshaw, Fearne Cotton and Rochelle Humes live from the BBC's Elstree Centre in Hertfordshire.

The cast of EastEnders kicked off this year's Children in Need with a tribute to the musical Grease.

Susan Boyle and Cheryl Fernandez-Versini also performed during the event, as did Boyzone and The Script.

Meanwhile, a new Tom and Jerry cartoon saw the famous cat and mouse meet The Apprentice's Lord Alan Sugar, EastEnders's Danny Dyer and the Strictly Come Dancing judges.

EastEnders' Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt) was also haunted by ghosts from his past, in a sketch which featured his ex-wife Cindy (Michelle Collins), Pat (Pam St Clement) and his own mum Kathy (Gillian Taylforth).
