Bake Off's Extra Slice debuts with ratings of over 2 million

The Great British Bake Off: An Extra Slice scored impressive audience figures for its debut, overnight data suggests.

The Jo Brand-hosted companion show to The Great British Bake Off had an opening night audience of 2.05m (10.7%) at 9pm on BBC Two.

Elsewhere on the channel, the new series of Mastermind opened to 1.46m (7.6%) at 8pm, followed by ratings of 1.44m (7.3%) for Kitty Hope and Mark Greenwood's Sweets Made Simple at 8.30pm. Gardener's World aired to 1.69m (8.8%) at the later time of 9.30pm.

Great British Bake Off co-host Sue Perkins's opening instalment of Edinburgh Nights was seen by 536k (3.1%) at 10pm.

BBC One's police procedural Walter was the highest-rated primetime offering outside of soaps, screening to an audience of 2.73m (14.2%) at 9pm.

Documentary Scrappers continued with 2.52m (12.8%) at 8.30pm.

Big Brother's latest double eviction - in which Winston Showan and Mark Byron departed the show - was seen by an audience of 1.3m (7%) at 9pm, with 652k (5.2%) tuning in for Bit on the Side at 10.30pm.

Meanwhile, cricket highlights from the second day's play in the Fourth Test between England and India reached 489k (2.7%) at 7pm.

Over on Channel 4, 824k (4.2%) watched the latest episode of Million Pound Drop.

Episode two of The Singer Takes It All was seen by 980k (5.1%) at 9pm, while The Last Leg entertained 952k (5.9) at 10pm. 349k (3.2%) tuned in for Kevin McHale's Virtually Famous at 10.50pm.

On ITV, The Dales reached 2.58m (13.5%) at 8pm, while Doc Martin had an audience of 2.16m (11.2%) at 9pm.

On the multichannels, a repeat of Taylor Lautner's Cuckoo debut brought 363k (1.9%) to BBC Three at 9pm. Over on BBC Four, another showing of Imagine's Rod Stewart documentary Can't Stop Me Now was seen by 554k (3.2%) at 9.25pm.
