Nuneaton dancer gets through to Britain's Got Talent final

A Nuneaton dancer is heading for the Britain's Got Talent final after progressing through to the closing stages of the competition last night.

Along with his dance group The Addict Initiative, Luke Hemmings, 21, from Stockingford, will be at the live finals on Saturday June 7.

Singer James Smith won the public vote for the finals meaning the show's celebrity judges had to pick between The Addict Initiative and singer Jodi Bird.

The Addict Initiative, who have 26 members aged from 17 to 31, performed a dance based on the story of Snow White that was met with praise from all of the show's judges.

Judge Amanda Holden described the group as “the best thing since Diversity” while Simon Cowell said they were “incredible” and “one of the best dance acts” on the show. Three of the four judges chose The Addict Initiative which meant the group are going through to the finals.

They will join opera group Collabro, magician Darcy Oake and singer James Smith.

If the Leicester-based group win Britain's Got Talent, Luke and his fellow dancers will be awarded a £250,000 cash prize as well as a slot at the Royal Variety Performance.

His aunt Lisa said Luke has dreamed of being a dancer "since he was 11 years old".

She said his friends and family were all behind the group as they head to the final - and added she hoped people in Coventry and Warwickshire would also pick up the phone to vote for a local lad.

Luke now studies at the Addict Dance Academy in Leicester - home city for the rest of the group.

He previously studied at St Thomas More School in Nuneaton, and The Dance Unit, in Hazell Way, also in Nuneaton.

The Britain's Got Talent final will be live on ITV on Saturday, June 7
