'Rise of Discount Supermarkets' tops Friday ratings

ITV's Tonight: The Rise of Discount Supermarkets was Friday's highest rated show outside of soaps.

Exploring the success of budget supermarkets such as Aldi and Lidl, Tonight was seen by an average audience of 4.73m (24.3%) viewers at 8pm on ITV.

ITV's evening continued with 2.63 million (13%) for drama series Lewis at 9pm, while Pierce Brosnan's James Bond movie Die Another Day played to 877k (10.1%) at 10.35pm.

Have I Got News for You continued to be a ratings success for BBC One, attracting 4.01 million (19.4%) at 9pm. This week's show was hosted by Crimewatch presenter Kirsty Young.

It was followed by 3.09 million (15.7%) for Room 101 at 9.30pm, while 3.21 million (24.2%) tuned in to watch Julie Andrews, Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill on The Graham Norton Show at 10.40pm.

BBC One's evening kicked off with an average audience of 3.22 million (18.1%) for The One Show at 7pm, followed by 2.6m (12.8%) for RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2014 and 263 million (12.8%) for The Food Inspectors at 8pm.

The RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2014 continued with 2.46 million (12.6%) on BBC Two at 8pm.

It was sandwiched between ratings of 1.49 million (7.7%) for Great British Menu at 7.30pm and 830k (4.1%) for The Story of Women and Art at 9pm.

BBC Two's evening concluded with 1.46 million (8.5%) for 20th anniversary The Fast Show Special at 10pm.

Gogglebox once again topped Channel 4's ratings, entertaining 2.91 million (14.4%) at 9pm, followed by 1.2m (7.6%) for Alan Carr: Chatty Man at 10pm. Elsewhere, Marvel's Agents of SHIELD played to an increased audience of 1.03 million (5%) at 8pm.

Channel 5's highest-rated show was NCIS with 1.06 million (5%) at 9pm. It was preceded by 671k (3.3%) for Eddie Stobart's Excellent Adventures at 8pm and was followed by 537k (3.3%) for NCIS: Los Angeles at 10pm.

BBC Three movie Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End was the highest performing multichannel offering, racking up 754k (3.8%) views at 7.25pm.
