Channel 4's
For the Love of Cars was the second programme this past week to deal with the history of the BMC Mini. On the plus side it did it a damn sight better than Quest's
Cars That Rock. It was tiotally one sided though. They completley ignored the Mini's mechanical shortcomings and the fact that BMC lost money on every car they built. They also ignored the Mini's quirkier space-saving ideas such as undersized wheels, huge door sidepockets and sit-up-and-beg seating position. They mentioned that nearly everyone owned a Mini at one time, true, but they also traded it in for something else at the first opportunity. It would have added a lot more balance to the programme if they'd chosen for restoration a model with corroded sub-frames, a very common failing in older Minis.
